Teams assembled their separate squads to the best of their abilities during the IPL auction 2022. Some of the biggest names were auctioned off, with a few surprises thrown in for good measure. Mumbai Indians paid Rs 15.25 crore for wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan, making him the most expensive purchase of the IPL auction 2022. The 10 franchises sold a total of 204 players and spent Rs 551.70 crore. Some prominent names, on the other hand, did not find takers at the IPL auction.

Suresh Raina (Base price of Rs 2 crore):

In the IPL auction 2022, the Australian run-machine surprisingly had no takers. While playing for the Delhi Capitals in 2021, he had a mixed tournament. Smith scored 152 runs in eight matches, averaging 25.33 and striking out 112.59% of the time.

His entire experience could have been beneficial to some of the clubs, but no one was willing to take a chance on him.

Shakib Al Hasan (Base price of Rs 2 crore):

The Bangladeshi all-rounder is ranked first in the ICC’s ODI all-rounder rankings and second in the ICC’s T20I all-rounder rankings. Despite his talent with the bat and the ball, no team has made a move for Shakib.

His dismal performance in the IPL 2021 season may have worked against him. Shakib scored 47 runs in eight games for KKR and took only four wickets.

Adil Rashid (Base price of Rs 2 crore):

The England leggie has showed remarkable control over the years and is currently one of the best bowlers in the game’s shortest format. The fact that Adil Rashid is ranked third in the ICC’s T20I player rankings went unnoticed by the franchises, who chose to ignore him.

Imran Tahir (Base price of Rs 2 crore):

The experienced South African spinner is now 42 years old, and his starting price of Rs 2 crore may have been the cause for his auction failure. Even previous year, Tahir was only given the opportunity to play one game for the Chennai Super Kings, in which he grabbed two wickets at an economy rate of 4.

Aaron Finch (Base price of Rs 1.50 crore):

In the IPL, the Australian white-ball captain has shown flashes of his skill but hasn’t been able to sustain his success. Finch had a good season with RCB in 2020, collecting 268 runs in 12 games, however he was released before the IPL 2021 auction, when he went unsold.

Dawid Malan (Base price of Rs 1.50 crore):

According to the ICC rankings, the Englishman was the best hitter in T20Is, but he has steadily dropped down the pecking order in recent years. He is now ranked 5th in the ICC T20I rankings and has recently fallen short of his lofty expectations.

Last season, he was signed to Punjab Kings with much hype, but he only played one game, scoring 26 runs.

Eoin Morgan (Base price of Rs 1.50 crore):

In IPL 2021, the England white-ball captain led the Kolkata Knight Riders to the final, where they were defeated by Chennai Super Kings. Despite KKR’s incredible run to the final, Morgan struggled mightily with the bat.

In 17 games, the left-hander managed only 133 runs at an average of 11.08. Despite his evident leadership skills, his failures in 2021 definitely played a big role in clubs deciding not to buy him.

Chris Lynn (Base price of Rs 1.50 crore):

Lynn, one of Australia’s most lethal batsmen, has been unable to recreate his BBL heroics in the IPL. He was signed by Mumbai Indians for Rs 2 crore ahead of the IPL 2021 season, although he only played one match.

In that regard, he impressed, scoring 49 runs at a strike rate of 140. Surely, one of the sides could have taken a gamble and acquired an explosive top-order batsman, but not the Australians.

Tabraiz Shamsi (Base price of Rs 1 crore):

In the one-day internationals against India, the South African spinner demonstrated his abilities. Shamsi is the second-best bowler in the T20I format, but despite his qualifications, teams have shown little interest in him.

Shamsi would have been a bargain at 1 crore.
