After we saw Sunrisers Hyderabad successfully defend a total in the Qualifier 2 at this venue on Friday, we expect that both captains will choose to bat first if they win the toss ahead of this final at the MA Chidambaram.
It will be a cloudy evening in Chepauk and there is a slight chance of rain according to the forecast. However, it is only a slight chance and we can expect a temperature of 32 degrees throughout with high humidity.
The pitch at the MA Chidambaram is never the quickest in the IPL and that has been the case once again this season. As a result, scores of 250+ are unrealistic on a surface which is likely to assist the spinners. Slower balls will grip and batters will need to take advantage of the hard ball and the fielding restrictions during the powerplay.

Although there are no injuries in the KKR squad, we could still see some changes ahead of this final as the conditions in Chepauk are different to those seen in the Qualifier 1 in Ahmedabad. Spinners are likely to come into the conversation for the XI as well as in the impact role.
There were no injury worries for Sunrisers Hyderabad either before or after their Qualifier 2 on Friday and we expect to see the same players used across the match as against Rajasthan Royals. Playing here in Chepauk on Friday could also be an advantage for Pat Cummins’ side.

The 2024 IPL is likely to be remembered for some of the very high-scoring powerplay scores as well as the record breaking totals from Sunrisers Hyderabad earlier in the tournament. However, here in Chennai, it is likely to be a lower-scoring game and it could well be a classic between these two strong sides. Sunrisers have the advantage of playing at this venue and winning on Friday whereas KKR thrashed Sunrisers on Tuesday for their second win over them this season. Our prediction is for a close contest which will go all the way to the end but we are backing KKR to triumph once again.
Kolkata Knight Riders to beat Sunrisers Hyderabad
Kolkata Knight Riders a 88% chance to win this match
Sunrisers Hyderabad a 13% chance to win this match
Sunil Narine
the all-rounder looks to be very much in the running for the Player of the Tournament Award. He will play unorthodox shots in the final but will look to attack from the start.
Shreyas Iyer
the skipper has had an easy job leading some of these players this season and he produced a brilliant innings to win in the Qualifier 1 with 58 not out from 24 balls.
Mitchell Starc
the experienced left-arm quick comes into the final in fine form after taking the wickets of Travis Head, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Shahbaz Ahmed on Tuesday.
Varun Chakravarhty
the spinner added another two wickets to his tally for the season in the Qualifier 1 and he’ll be looking forward to bowling at the same players in this game.
Anukul Roy, Manish Pandey, KS Bharat, Sherfane Rutherford, Nitish Rana
Such was their dominance over Sunrisers Hyderabad in the playoffs that KKR did not use an Impact Player in that game. However, in this final, we expect Anukul Roy’s spin to be used in the fielding innings.
Heinrich Klaasen
without the South African’s runs on Friday, Sunrisers could easily have failed to post a sufficient target. He is averaging 42.09 in this IPL.
Abhishek Sharma
the all-rounder was dismissed inside the first over in the Qualifier 2 but he had already hit 12 runs! He will also be a threat with the ball as seen on Friday when he took 2/24.
T Natarajan
the left-arm fast medium bowler is a very experienced and clever campaigner. He has an excellent array of slower balls and conceded just 13 runs from his three overs against Rajasthan Royals.
Shahbaz Ahmed
the impact player contributed with bat and ball in the win over Rajasthan and his left-arm spin could be match-winning again in the final.
Umran Malik, Sanvir Singh, Jaydev Unadkat, Anmolpreet Singh, Glenn Phillips, Travis Hea
Australian opener Travis Head has been used mainly as just a batting option in IPL 2024 and we expect him to play the same role in this match with Bhuvneshwar Kumar to drop out after the fielding innings.
KKR finished top of the group stage and had a big win in the play-offs. They were last beaten back in Match 42.
Surisers Hyderabad produced a strong bowling performance on Friday to qualify for the final and have lost just two of their last eight matches.
