IPL 2022: 3 Captaincy options available for RCB

In the just-completed IPL 2022 big auction, the Royal Challengers Bangalore made some very interesting purchases. Veteran South African batsman Faf du Plessis, Australian paceman Josh Hazlewood, Sri Lankan spinner Wanindu Hasaranga, Windies star Sherfane Rutherford, wicketkeeper batter Dinesh Karthik, and others have also joined the RCB squad. Bangalore will be trying to start anew after rebuilding their roster in the hopes of capturing their first IPL title.

RCB, on the other hand, is yet to choose their captain. After the completion of the previous edition, their seasoned player Virat Kohli stepped down from the post, but made it clear that he would continue to play for the club as a player. Last November, the Bengaluru-based franchise suffered a major loss when ‘Mr.360’ AB de Villiers announced his retirement from all forms of cricket, depriving them of a solid captaincy choice.

We’ve compiled a list of multiple captaincy alternatives for RCB ahead of the 2018 IPL season.

On Day 1 of the IPL 2022 super auction, RCB signed Dinesh Karthik for INR 5.50 crore after a fierce bidding war with defending champions CSK. Bangalore will breathe a sigh of relief over their captaincy difficulties now that Karthik has joined the team. He has previous leadership experience, having led KKR for two seasons in 2018 and 2019.

During the 2020 edition, the veteran stumper served as captain before being replaced midway by English white-ball captain Eoin Morgan. At the same time, the cricketer-turned-part-time broadcaster is returning to RCB for the first time since 2015, and he also has experience playing for a variety of teams in recent years, which might be crucial to the Bengaluru-based franchise’s success.

Dinesh Karthik would not mind demonstrating his mettle as skipper for his second team in his remarkable IPL career if given the chance. He can also play the role of finisher in the team, something he excelled at during his time with KKR.
