Zimbabwe vs Ireland

1st T20 Match Prediction & Tips

Time: 12 Jan, 04:30 PM (IST)
Series: 1st T20 Match
Venue: Harare Sports Club – Harare, Zimbabwe

ZIM vs IRE Dream11 Prediction:

  • Captain Craig Ervine has centuries at Test and ODI level and has hit six fifties in IT20s. He is well worth backing as Zimbabwe’s highest run scorer against Ireland. With the ball, Richard Ngarava bowled a maiden and dismissed Hardik Pandya in his last IT20 and he is a strong choice for Zimbabwe’s top wicket taker in this match.
  • Andy Balbirnie bats at the top of the order and has struck six IT20 half-centuries. We expect him to be more attacking than normal in this series, with Paul Stirling absent, and he is our pick for Ireland’s highest run scorer against Zimbabwe. Gareth Delany, who dismissed Devon Conway and Glenn Phillips in his last IT20, to be Ireland’s top wicket taker.
  • We expect Gary Ballance to mark his return to international cricket with Zimbabwe with a determined innings. We recommend backing him to score over 21.5 runs.

Pitch Report:
It is a consistent, if not overly fast, wicket in Harare. We expect slow turn from the pitch and a par score of no more than 165.

ZIM Team News:

The majority of pre-series build-up has been dominated by the return to Zimbabwe of former England international Gary Ballance. He will boost the batting line-up which has been weakened by Sikandar Raza’s unavailability due to him playing for Rangpur Riders in the BPL. Blessing Muzarabani is also out through injury.

IRE Team News:

From the team who played in the T20 World Cup, Paul Stirling and Lorcan Tucker will both be absent due to playing in the ILT20 whereas Josh Little will be playing in the SA20. Opener Stephen Doheny could make his international debut at the top of the order.

Winning Chances:

This should be a very close series and we expect this opening match to be competitive. Both teams beat the eventual World Cup finalists during last year’s competition and they are capable of brilliant performances on their day. We think that Zimbabwe have more runs in their batting line-up and are backing them to win this first IT20 over Ireland.

Zimbabwe are favorites to beat Ireland

ZIM Key Players:

Craig Ervine –

The 37 year old skipper returned from the T20 World Cup and has been in excellent form. He hit scores of 153, 124 and 93 at this venue from mid-November to the end of the year.

Gary Ballance –

with 39 international appearances and just under 1500 runs at Test level for England, there has never been any doubt about Ballance’s ability. He will enjoy batting on this wicket in Harare.

Richard Ngarava –

The 25 year old left-arm fast medium bowler ended the T20 World Cup with wickets against Bangladesh, Netherlands and India. He is the most in-form of Zimbabwe’s bowlers ahead of this game.

IRE Key Players:

Andy Balbirnie –

The skipper struck three sixes in Ireland’s last T20 World Cup game and, even when in poor form, has the ability to take on bowlers of any level.

Curtis Campher –

The 23 year old all-rounder is yet to reach his full potential but already makes valuable contributions with both bat and ball. We expect his batting to be valuable on this pitch.

Gareth Delany –

The leg-spinner often concedes runs but is a reliable wicket taking option for Andy Balbirnie. His top figures in this format are 3-16.

ZIM vs IRE Team Forms:
ZIM Team Form:

After their famous one run win over eventual T20 World Cup Runners-up Pakistan, Zimbabwe have lost three IT20s in a row.

IRE Team Form:
Although Ireland enjoyed a famous DLS win over eventual winners England in the T20 World Cup, they were then well beaten by both New Zealand and Australia.
