The IPL 2024 is set for an exciting start as the defending champions, Chennai Super Kings, gear up to host the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the opener at the iconic MA Chidambaram stadium in Chennai on March 22. Following closely, the Gujarat Titans, last year’s finalists, will kick off their campaign with a blockbuster clash against their former captain Hardik Pandya’s Mumbai Indians in Ahmedabad on March 24.
The BCCI has unveiled the initial schedule for the 2024 season, covering the first 17 days from March 22 to April 7, featuring 21 matches across 10 cities, including four double-headers. Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals will face off in the season’s first-afternoon fixture on March 23 in Mohali, while Kolkata Knight Riders begin their journey at home against Sunrisers Hyderabad later the same day. Rajasthan Royals open their season at home against Lucknow Super Giants on the first Sunday of the tournament.
Notably, this initial phase excludes matches in Delhi, with the Delhi Capitals opting to play their two home games in Vizag. The remainder of the schedule will be announced by the BCCI after the Election Commission of India reveals the General Election dates.
The IPL media release assures that the BCCI will closely collaborate with government and security agencies, adhering to all necessary protocols and advisories related to the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections in India. Once the dates for the 18th Lok Sabha elections are confirmed, the Board will review and address any scheduling issues for the first two weeks. Subsequently, the BCCI will work with local authorities to finalize the schedule for the rest of the season, taking into consideration the polling dates.
