IPL 2023: MI Retained and Released Player List with Purse Remaining
Ahead of the mini-auction, Mumbai Indians kept their players, released their players, and kept their remaining purse
With a record-tying five championships, the Mumbai Indians are the most productive team in Indian Premier League (IPL) history in terms of accomplishments. However, recent seasons have not gone their way, with the 2022 season being the most forgettable and MI finishing at the very bottom.
Prior to the intense IPL 2023 auction, which is slated to take place in Kochi on December 23, they have made some significant retentions and releases in an effort to completely restructure their roster.
The Mumbai Indians keep their starting lineup, while Kieron Pollard retires
However, Caribbean all-rounder Kieron Pollard, one of the best players for the Mumbai Indians, announced his immediate retirement from the IPL before the final list was revealed. He would be the batting coach going forward for the team.
Therefore, Pollard’s position as a player must be filled, and it is currently unknown who Mumbai Indians would choose to do so. However, the former champions have kept their essential players, including middle-order sensation Suryakumar Yadav, skipper Rohit Sharma, and Jasprit Bumrah, ahead of the IPL auction.
Despite going absolutely off-color during important moments in 2022, Ishan Kishan, who was also the most expensive buy last season and brought in at a stunning INR 15.25 crore, has also been retained.
Ishan played in 14 games and amassed 418 runs with an average of 32.15 and a strike rate of 120.11, three half-centuries, and his highest individual score of 81*. Tilak Varma has also been retained in addition to the players mentioned above.
