Virender Sehwag proposes a reevaluation of Sam Curran’s position as an all-rounder within the team, encompassing both his batting and bowling contributions.

Sehwag commented, “A player who only contributes partially in batting and bowling isn’t valuable.”

This IPL season has been tough for Punjab Kings, especially with Shikhar Dhawan out due to injury. Sam Curran, the English all-rounder, has stepped up to lead the team in recent matches in Dhawan’s absence.

In their latest match against Gujarat Titans, Punjab Kings faced their sixth defeat of the season. Despite Curran’s efforts, the team could only muster 142 runs in the first innings and failed to defend it in the second.

Curran managed to score 20 runs off 19 balls and took a wicket in the two overs he bowled, conceding 18 runs. However, former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag expressed disappointment with Curran’s performance. Sehwag indicated that he wouldn’t select Curran for the squad in his current form, stating, “I wouldn’t regard Sam Curran solely as a batting all-rounder or a bowling all-rounder. A player who contributes partially in both batting and bowling isn’t effective. You either excel in one aspect or not at all.”

PBKS slip to ninth place in the standings
Punjab Kings are having a tough season in IPL 2024. Out of eight matches played, they’ve only won two and lost six, placing them ninth in the standings with just four points.

With each defeat, their chances of reaching the playoffs diminish, and another loss could spell their elimination. After their recent defeat to Gujarat Titans, Punjab Kings are preparing for a tough match against Kolkata Knight Riders. The two teams will face off at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Friday, April 26, marking the 42nd game of the tournament.
