IPL 2023: 5 players in the INR 2 crore range who may not be sold

The IPL auction’s dynamics frequently determine a player’s future in terms of money. While Kolkata Knight Riders spent INR 7.25 crores on Shivam Mavi last year, the player turned out to be very expensive with the ball, forcing the team to drop him after six games, Sunrisers Hyderabad spent INR 7.75 crores on Romario Shepherd in the 2022 IPL auction but could only field him in three matches.

The franchises will be hesitant to spend money on some cricketers, despite the fact that they are brilliant and in good shape. Given the past, teams these days take safety precautions and conduct extensive research before making a bid for a cricketer. Due to this, it’s possible that five cricketers in the 2 crore price range won’t be sold in the upcoming auction. What are the cricketers called, and why?

Here are 5 players in the INR 2 crore range who may not be sold:

1- Chris Lynn

Despite being in outstanding form in the current Abu Dhabi T10 League, the charismatic Australian batter Chris Lynn, 32, might not be selected in the forthcoming IPL auction.

There is little need for Lynn in the market because practically every team has secured their season-opening starters. more so in light of his recent success under adverse conditions in India. His struggles with swing are no longer a secret, so he could be a liability for that price.

However, his overall statistics are indicative of the quality he possesses. Lynn scored 1329 runs at a 140.63 strike rate in 42 IPL games. However, his past success could not be enough to help him create a prosperous future and he might stay unsold like in 2022.

2- Nathan Coulter-Nile

The 35-year-old Nathan Coulter-Nile had the potential to develop into a star player in the IPL throughout the years, but he was plagued by injuries and was unable to live up to expectations.

The Australian fast had a 7.78 economy rate while taking 170 wickets in 146 T20 games. Coulter-Nile has played in 39 IPL games, picked up 48 wickets, and even won the championship with the Mumbai Indians.

He played for the Rajasthan Royals for the 2022 season, however, Coulter-Nile suffered an injury right after the opening match and was forced to withdraw from the competition. He frequently proves to be a danger to the company, thus it might be challenging for him to sign with a squad this year.

3- Angelo Mathews

Despite being dropped from the national T20 team, former Sri Lankan captain Angelo Mathews, 35, may still be a significant addition to any squad given his track record. The likelihood of any club shelling out 2 crores for a cricketer who hasn’t played in a T20 match in the last six months is extremely slim.

Mathews scored 2788 runs at a strike rate of 119.55 in the 173 games he participated in during the game’s shortest format. He picked up 85 wickets in the same number of matches, demonstrating that his bowling ability can give him a competitive advantage.

Currently, Mathew’s age, form, and relevance in contemporary T20 cricket may put him on the back foot in the forthcoming IPL auction despite his skill and what he contributes to the game. He is quite prone to injuries, which makes matters worse, and he might not sell for the same reason.

4- Jamie Overton

Jamie, Craig’s brother, also set a base bid of 2 crores for the upcoming IPL auction. As a bowling all-rounder, Jamie amassed 67 wickets from 83 T20 cricket games. Jamie has shown to be quite expensive, and because of his economy of 9.37, franchises will be hesitant to bid on him in the auction.

The 28-year-old did not participate in even one game of The Hundred, and franchises are not interested in the cricketer because of his present performance. He only played four games in the last five months, which provides information on his current match fitness.

Even though Jamie has speed, teams will look elsewhere due to his base price, which is higher than Craig’s because Jamie has no experience playing in India.

5- Craig Overton

Craig Overton, an all-round bowler for England, has listed himself in the $2 million range, although his T20 statistics have been, to put it mildly, pretty ordinary. The 28-year-old may struggle to gain a spot in any team in the IPL with 70 wickets under his belt from the same amount of games in the shortest format of the game.

Even in The Hundred last season, Overton took two wickets in just one game. The buyers at the auction table may eventually hesitate to place their bids because of his limited playing time and lack of experience playing on the Indian subcontinent.

When it comes to his batting, Overton can overwhelm the opposition, but he still needs to improve his consistency. The Englishman has so far scored 347 runs at a strike rate of 123.04 in 70 games. As a result, a team searching for a finisher in the death overs may consider other alternatives with higher numbers at a comparable cost.
