IPL 2023 Auction: 5 players with a base price of INR 2 crore who may not be sold at the Auction

For the 87 seats available in the 10 teams for the IPL 2023, as many as 991 players have identified themselves. Out of those, 21 have signed up at the most expensive base price of INR 2 crore; surprisingly, all of them are players from outside India. People who have excelled in the IPL, like as Kane Williamson, Ben Stokes, and Sam Curran, are anticipated to bring in the money. Regarding some players, who share the same starting price, the same cannot be true.

1. Angelo Mathews

The last time Angelo Mathews signed up for the IPL was in 2019, at the maximum fee of 2 crore once more, when he was 32 years old, no longer on the national squad, and had a dismal T20 record. The Sri Lankan veteran has chosen to limit himself to INR 2 crore for a variety of reasons. The first offer of INR 2 crore for Mathews from a franchise is extremely doubtful, though. Previously, the all-rounder played for the Kolkata Knight Riders, Pune Warriors India, and Delhi Daredevils (now the Delhi Capitals).

2. Nathan Coulter-Nile

Nathan Coulter-Nile is past his prime, much like Mathews. Since 2020, the 35-year-old bowler, who can also bat a little, has participated in every IPL season. Although Couter-Nile enjoyed his excellent time with KKR, his performance has not been reliable. Therefore, it’s possible that no club would want to spend INR 2 crore on the veteran Australian pacer.

3. Travis Head

When Travis Head joined Australia’s ODI team, he excelled. The same cannot be said, though, regarding his performance in the 20-over format. He has a strike rate of 133.20 and a T20I average under 27. Lack of T20I half-centuries is a warning sign for a hitter who has usually batted in the top order. In the IPL auction, Head might not find any buyers given that he has listed his name under the highest base price.

4. Jamie Overton

Jamie Overton, a bowler for England, has listed himself in the INR 2 crore range for the IPL 2023 Auction despite having no T20I or IPL experience. Overton can bat fairly well in addition to his bowling skills. Franchises, though, might make a few adjustments before spending their INR 2 crore on the Englishman.

5. Tymal Mills

The five-time champion Mumbai Indians choose Tymal Mills to fill in for the injured Jofra Archer. The left-arm pacer, however, was unable to deliver his best work and was expelled from the Paltan family. It is quite possible that franchises will be interested in investing in the English pacer given the abundance of local left-arm pacers that are out for sale.
