Brisbane Heat vs Melbourne Renegades

BBL T20 Match Prediction & Tips

Time: 15 Dec, 01:45 PM (IST)
Series: BBL T20 Match
Venue: Cazalys Stadium – Cairns, Australia

HEA vs REN Dream11 Prediction:

  • Left-hander Colin Munro averaged 43.33 in the BBL last year and he is our tip for Brisbane Heat’s highest run scorer in this opening match. With the ball, MItchell Swepson has not been picked for Australia’s Test series with South Africa but that should be Brisbane Heat’s gain. The spinner is our pick for their top wicket taker in this match.
  • Former captain Aaron Finch has scored 2817 runs across his BBL career and the opener is well worth backing as Melbourne Renegades’ highest run scorer in this game. Kane Richardson has 117 BBL wickets to his name and the pace bowler is a strong choice for Melbourne Renegades’ top wicket taker against Brisbane Heat.
  • Colin Munro has a reputation as a fine white ball specialist batter and we recommend backing him to score over 28.5 runs in this fixture.

Weather & Pitch Report:
⛅ Weather:

It will be hot and humid across this game in Cairns with the temperature in the high 20s from start to finish. There is a slight chance of a thunderstorm in the second half of the match.

Pitch Report:
This will be the first time that a BBL match has taken place at the Cazalys Stadium. It is typically a slower wicket with the ball gripping for spinners and cutters.

Toss Prediction:
With potential rain interruptions later on in the game, we expect both captains to want to bat first and post a total in the first half of the match.

HEA vs REN TEAM NEWS:
HEA Team News:

Captain Usman Khawaja and in-form Test star Marnus Labuschagne will both miss this opener as they prepare for the First Test against South Africa. New signing, Colin Munro, who has an excellent BBL record, is expected to captain the side in this match.

REN Team News:

After finishing in eighth place in three successive BBL tournaments, the Renegades have put faith in experienced batters and a youthful bowling attack to try and turn their fortunes around. Nic Maddinson will captain the side after taking on the role half-way through last year’s campaign.

HEA vs REN Team Updates:
HEA Team Updates

  • In the last Big Bash, Brisbane Heat only managed to win 3 games.
Last year, they shared the worst team honors with Melbourne Renegades. They, therefore, want to get the competition off to a good start this time.
Max Bryant and Sam Heazlett will probably open the inning.
Colin Munro will bat at the one-down position.
Matt Renshaw and Sam Billings will handle the middle-order batting.
Jimmy Peirson will do the Wicket Keeping for Brisbane Heat.
Mitchell Swepson and Matthew Kuhnemann will take care of the spin bowling of his team.
Mark Steketee will lead the pace attack of his team.

REN Team Updates

  • Calling Melbourne Renegades’ performance in the BBL last year “very poor” would be an understatement.
At this level, they have a strong variety in their bowling attack, but their batting line-up depends on the presence of two of their seasoned batters, Aaron Finch and Nic Maddinson.
Andre Russell is emerging from a subpar T10 league. He will be an essential part of the Renegades’ bottom order.
Aaron Finch and Martin Guptill will probably open the inning.
Sam Harper will bat at the one-down position.
Nic Maddinson and Peter Handscomb will handle the middle-order batting.
Nic Maddinson will lead the Melbourne Renegades as a Captain. He is also a good Alrounder
Sam Harper will do the Wicket Keeping for Melbourne Renegades.
Kane Richardson and Mujeeb-ur-Rahman will lead the pace attack of his team.

Winning Chances:

After last year, both teams would happily take a season where they are challenging for a play-off place as opposed to fighting it out at the bottom of the table. On a small ground which is expected to deliver high scores, we expect an entertaining contest but are backing the younger batting line-up at Brisbane Heat to produce more runs. Our prediction is for Brisbane Heat to get off to a winning start.

Brisbane Heat are favorites to beat Melbourne Renegades

STR Key Players:

Colin Munro –

the left-hander has a top score of 114 not out in the BBL and he has scored 833 runs across the last two seasons for Perth Scorchers, helping them to their title last year.

Sam Hain –

the 27 year old Englishman will be making his BBL debut this year after impressing across all formats over recent seasons. He has caught the eye in both years of the Hundred for Manchester Originals and Welsh Fire.

Mitchell Swepson –

the leg-spinner is back for his eighth BBL season but will be available for a larger number of games than last year when he played in only five. A big spinner of the ball who can be used as an attacking threat.

REN Key Players:

Aaron Finch –

the 36 year old Australia T20 captain has shrugged off worries over his hamstring and will be an imposing figure at the crease in this game. He has a top score of 111 not out in the BBL.

Mujeeb Ur Rahman –

the tall Afghan spinner will get plenty of turn and bounce from this wicket. So often in the shadows of Rashid Khan at national level, he could well star for the Renegades in BBL 2022 season.

Kane Richardson –

the 31 year old is a very consistent performer in the BBL with 90 appearances so far. He had a strike-rate of 12 last season and has some of the best variations of the pace bowlers in the tournament.

HEA vs REN Team Forms:
HEA Team Form:

Brisbane Heat ended the 2021-22 BBL with five successive defeats and seven losses from their last eight games.

REN Team Form:
Melbourne Renegades were beaten in all five of their last games of last season’s tournament.
