RCB Captain IPL 2022: Faf du Plessis to be named new RCB Captain: Faf du Plessis is poised to be named the new captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL 2022 season. The RCB has scheduled a news conference for March 12 at 4 p.m. to discuss the situation. The position of captain has been left vacant by Virat Kohli’s decision to stand out after the IPL 2021 season. The replacement for Glenn Maxwell was expected to be Glenn Maxwell, but RCB chose Du Plessis instead.
RCB had planned to announce the name on March 8, but they have now opted to postpone it. The team’s fourteenth anniversary will be celebrated on March 12th at the Museum Cross Road in Church Street, according to a tweet from the franchise.

Glenn Maxwell was hampered by his inability to play in the first three matches of the IPL 2022 season. Despite not being selected for the white-ball series against Pakistan, Cricket Australia has banned all centrally contracted players from appearing in the IPL until April 5, meaning the NOC will only be valid from April 6.
As a result, Faf du Plessis was chosen. The former South African captain has extensive captaincy experience, having led his country in all three formats, including the World Cup. Du Plessis was a sure starter for Chennai Super Kings, and he’ll be a sure starter in RCB’s Playing XI as an opener, allowing him to take over the reins.
RCB Captain IPL 2022: Why does Faf du Plessis appear to be the best candidate for the RCB captaincy?
- After Virat Kohli, Faf is the only alternative with international captaincy experience.
- Faf du Plessis, a prolific in-form opener, will be one of the first names on the squad sheet.
- He will be available for the entire length of the IPL 2022, having retired from international cricket.
- Glenn Maxwell was another alternative that was examined initially, but he will be unavailable for the first three games. After serving a five-day quarantine following his Pakistan trip, the Australian will be eligible from March 12.
- Dinesh Karthik was the other choice, owing to his contributions from behind the stumps. However, KKR underperformed under his leadership, and he went down midway through the IPL 2020 season.
Furthermore, Faf du Plessis’ purchase was meticulously prepared ahead of time. RCB went all out to get his services, spending Rs 7 crore.
