Sam Curran was the most expensive player ever sold in an IPL auction when he was sold to Punjab Kings for Rs 18.5 crore

During the most recent T20 World Cup, Curran recorded 13 wickets, including a 3 for 12 against Pakistan in the championship match that earned him Player of the Match honors.

At the IPL 2023 auction in Kochi on Friday, Sam Curran was acquired by Punjab Kings for a staggering Rs. 18.5 crore. He has surpassed Chris Morris to become the most expensive player in IPL history. The starting bid for Curran was Rs 2 crore.

Morris was acquired by Rajasthan Royals for Rs 16.25 crore in 2021, making him the most expensive player ever to be acquired at an IPL auction. When Delhi Daredevils acquired Yuvraj Singh for INR 16 crore in the 2015 auction, he was the most expensive Indian player ever to be purchased at a mini-auction.

The other players who were signed for Rs 15 crore or more at an IPL mini auction were Pat Cummins (15.5 in 2020) and Kyle Jamieson (15 in 2021).

Royal Challengers and the Mumbai Indians When Curran’s price swiftly reached Rs 7 crore, Bangalore joined the Curran bidding war. At that moment, Rajasthan Royals also participated. Shortly after, RCB withdrew as RR and MI carried on their competitive bidding war. Before Punjab eventually broke the bank, Lucknow Super Giants, Chennai Super Kings, and Punjab Kings all entered the match.

In Australia earlier this year, Curran won the T20 World Cup Player of the Tournament award.

Throughout the competition, Curran recorded 13 wickets, including a 3 for 12 against Pakistan in the championship match that earned him Player of the Match honours.

He has a lot of skills with both the bat and the ball, so we are really glad to have him on board. Sam might be lucky that he was called first; we had two or three allrounders in mind, Trevor Bayliss of the Punjab Kings stated during the intermission.

Curran opted out of the IPL mega auction in February 2022, claiming his recovery from a back injury as the cause.

In the 2020 and 2021 seasons, the left-arm pacer played for Chennai Super Kings. Punjab Kings, who acquired him for Rs. 7.2 crore in 2019, gave him his IPL debut.

Curran has scored 337 runs at a strike rate of 149.78 in 32 games across three seasons. Additionally, Curran has 32 wickets at a 9.21 economy.
